How to post via text messages

Posted by sinacism April 18th, 2009

Follow the Codex instructions to set up your wordpress site to accept emails as posts.

Something also to note. If the email account you set up is gmail you need to give the SSL address for your pop mail settings. ssl://pop.gmail.com with port 995

If you want to post from your phone’s text message app,  the key is to register a new user with your phone’s email address as the new user’s email address. You must make this user an “Author” for automatic publishing to work. Otherwise all posts will be kept in “pending” and await approval.

For instance if your carrier is verizon your phone’s email address is your 10 digit phone number with @vtext.com

To get your phone’s email address:

Carrier Send Email to phonenumber@….
Alltel @message.alltel.com
AT&T @mms.att.net
Nextel @messaging.nextel.com
Sprint @messaging.sprintpcs.com
SunCom @tms.suncom.com
T-mobile @tmomail.net
VoiceStream @voicestream.net
Verizon @vtext.com (text only)
@vzwpix.com (pictures and videos)
